Croydon Commitment is governed by its Board of trustees whose role it is to set the strategic direction of the organisation, approve the budget and ensure that Croydon Commitment meets the real needs of the community. The board meets regularly to assess the organisation’s development and progression against the aims and objectives set out in the governing documents and business plans. The board currently consists of seven members who have the skills. experience and expertise to steer the organisation.
Jane joined the Croydon Commitment board in 2016 shortly before retiring from paid employment. Her business background over 35 years was in HR and specifically technical recruitment and bids at Marks & Spencer, Computer People, Adecco and Mott MacDonald. She supports Croydon Commitment’s activities in hiring our own staff, bid writing as well as our thematic strand of Employment. She is a keen volunteer having worked in leadership roles on numerous international sporting events such as hockey (including the 2012 Olympics), athletics and wheelchair rugby and has lived in the local Croydon area since 1986.
Jenna studied Management and Marketing at Exeter University before starting her career at a start-up, working in role spanning brand and social media marketing. She then joined the marketing department of one of the UK’s largest organisations, focusing on marketing and communications campaigns. In 2015, Jenna joined the corporate communications team at Allianz Partners UK, based in Croydon. There she works across internal and external communications, and also has strategic responsibility for the development and implementation of the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy. Jenna became a member of the board of Croydon Commitment in January 2018 and advises on brand and communications activity.
Karen Chillman has over 30 years’ experience of working in voluntary sector (infrastructure and direct delivery), more than 15 years of which are in senior management positions. She is currently Head of Volunteering and Croydon Voluntary Action. Karen spent six years as a Trustee of Greater London Volunteering and is an active member of the South London Volunteer Centre Network Group. Karen is recognised as a leader within the volunteering community in London. She has and is still involved in a wide range of pan-London volunteering initiatives, and also working at a strategic level with the GLA as a representative on the working group to explore new ways of connecting people to projects through online platforms, apps and other new and innovative approaches to connecting.
Sean is a qualified Chartered Accountant and partner of Bryden Johnson, a local and well-established Accountancy firm servicing SME businesses. Sean joined the board of Croydon Commitment in 2013 and uses his skills and experience to help ensure that the charity delivers positive engagement and improvement in the local community whilst maintaining a solid financial position.
